Age Gap Calculator

About This Calculator

This Age Gap Calculator helps you find the age difference between two people using either full birthdates or just birth years. It shows the precise difference in years, months, and days, and also evaluates whether the gap is socially acceptable based on the "half your age plus seven" rule.

If you're simply looking to determine the socially acceptable dating age range based on your own age, please use our Acceptable Age Gap Calculator instead.

How It Works

  1. Select a calculation mode: By Year Only or By Birthday.
  2. Enter both people's birth information. Dates must be in the past.
  3. The calculator computes the absolute age gap and displays it in years (and in months/days if using full dates).
  4. It also applies the common age gap rule: the younger person's age should be at least the older person's age ÷ 2 + 7.
  5. If either person is under 14, the compatibility rule will not apply and the result will note that age is too young for evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the "half your age plus seven" rule?

It’s a popular social guideline suggesting that the minimum socially acceptable age for a partner is your age divided by two plus seven. For example, if you're 30, the youngest acceptable partner would be 22.

What if one or both people are very young?

If either person is under 14 years old, the age gap rule is not applied. The calculator will show "Not applicable" in the compatibility field.

Can I compare based on year only?

Yes. Choose the "By Year Only" mode to quickly compare two birth years and estimate the age gap in full years.

Can I use exact birthdates?

Absolutely. The "By Birthday" mode lets you input two full dates and shows the exact age difference down to the day.

Will the calculator handle future dates?

No. Dates must be in the past. Entering a future date will trigger an error message.
